Learning Together to Love Our Neighbors as Ourselves
Casa ChirilaguaCasa Chirilagua is a community of people learning together to love their neighbors as themselves in a Latino neighborhood of Alexandria. We are a Christian faith-based not-for-profit that seeks to develop relationships with families to see the Chirilagua neighborhood transformed by Christ. Investing in long-term relationships, we remain involved in people’s lives for as long as they permit. Our programs emerge from the context of our relationships with families and their children.
With a holistic approach to ministry, we address the needs of the whole person: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. We respond to pressing material needs by connecting families to local resources such as churches, individuals and partner organizations. We encourage and support at-risk students through our after-school program, Kids Club and by matching each of these students in a mentor relationship. We share the good news of Jesus Christ and provide opportunities for discipleship and social development through age and gender appropriate Bible studies. As a part of a community-driven, three year strategic direction plan completed in 2014, we are working to develop indigenous leaders who are confident, united, empowered and motivated to serve the Chirilagua community in Christ’s love. This initiative is served through a monthly High School Professional Role Models Series; a Local Leaders program for college/young adults which offers real-world job experience at Kids Club, professional development & mentoring, and support for continuing education; and our Kid's Club Parent Committee.
We provide opportunities for the building of cross-cultural relationships through which Christians can celebrate the diversity of the peoples and communities God has created. We seek to encourage partnerships among local congregations to address local needs. In recognition that God’s Kingdom is at work beyond the confines of our community and in the relational spirit that is the hallmark of all we do, we have committed ourselves as pray for our church partners as we gather together daily as staff to intercede. We invite your prayer requests as we continue to learn together to love our neighbors as ourselves.
