opportunities to Serve

As a community we value and encourage everyone to discover the joy and the reward of helping others through service. We’d love to invite you to join us as we seek to extend a loving hand to those in and around our neighborhood. If you'd like to get involved, please contact us today! Here are some ways to serve locally:

APC seeks to fulfill the Great Commission by providing our members with evangelistic training and the necessary resources to effectively present the gospel. For more information on how you can become involved in various evangelistic events and opportunities throughout the year, contact the church office.

African Refugee Outreach

APC has welcomed more than two dozen refugees into our congregation. Most are from Africa—men and women fleeing political and religious persecution. It is a tremendous mutual blessing to worship together, and to serve these new Americans as they learn English, seek employment and endeavor to reunite with family members who are often left behind.

Manna Ministry

This ministry provides meals to those with short-term needs, such as a death in family, injury or illness, surgery, new baby, etc. Contact the church office to volunteer or to receive assistance.

Seniors Ministry

APC is a welcoming community of believers to those who face the physical challenges of aging. Our Seniors Ministry offers a fellowship and devotional time on Sunday mornings, along with transportation for individuals and those at the Lincolnian Assisted Living residences. The Sunday morning gathering is on the main level at Russell Road, in room 205, just after close of morning worship. All who find it difficult to manage the steps to go downstairs, or find the fellowship hall to be too noisy and crowded, are invited to join our Seniors Fellowship. We also provide a mid-week outreach to the Lincolnian, and have sponsored Christmas gifts and special programs for the residents. Volunteers to assist in this ministry are always welcome.

Greeters assure that members, regular attendees, and every person who visits APC are warmly welcomed at each service. They also assure that visitors receive information about the church and ministry opportunities. Greeters are scheduled in teams of 4-5 people for 2 weeks at a time, typically 2-3 times a year.

Hospitality—"Bringing It To the Table!"

APC's Hospitality volunteers transform every fellowship event into a truly special occasion, assisting with everything from decorations to food. They also help with Sunday morning coffee during the fellowship time.

Nursery Volunteers. The nursery is an important ministry to our littlest ones. Volunteers typically help out one worship service per quarter.

Contact: Erin Furgerson, Nursery Coordinator, or the APC office.

Coffee Ministry. The Coffee Ministry serves light refreshments each Sunday during fellowship time. We need new team members to serve on teams of four. Likely, you will only be scheduled one Sunday per quarter.

Ushers: As an usher, you help the Deacons collect tithes and offerings and give a big smile to the folks in the pews as you pass the collection bags.

Social Committee. Community requires connection, and the Social Committee’s role is to foster that connection by dreaming up and planning fun events for the whole church. The committee typically meets 4-6 times per year to enjoy a great meal and plan events big and small.

Communion Setup Volunteers Needed. Are you interested in preparing the elements for APC’s monthly celebration of the Lord’s Table?  All the elements are on hand, and your role would be to prepare them for service.

Fellowship Hall Re-set. We are in need of volunteers who are willing to “reset” the Fellowship Hall after Sunday School, in preparation for Sunday night ministries. This typically takes 10-15 minutes each Sunday, and involves putting all chairs and tables back into the storage room. It’s quick, it’s easy, and could use your leadership.

Audio: The audio ministry requires a heart for ministry, a mechanical mind, and an ear for music. Volunteers run sound once a month on Sundays and possibly serve for special services.

Photography: Photographs of APC events are desired for the newsletter, Facebook, videos, etc. and require a photographer with an artistic sense and their own equipment.

PROTAS/Youth Volunteers. Consider joining APC’s kingdom-building youth ministry by coming alongside teenagers as a friend and discipler. Cross-generational ministry is hard work, but what teens often more remember is the person who earned their trust.

Explorers and Children’s Church Volunteers. Investing in the future is what volunteering in Children’s Ministry is about. Children’s Church is held for 45 minutes during worship.  Explorer classes are held from 5-7pm on Sundays, including game time, dinner and a lesson.

Serve around the World

Engagement in Missions is an integral part of the life and ministry of Alexandria Presbyterian Church. Within the first year of APC’s founding, the congregation began supporting a missionary family serving abroad. That commitment to support those in the mission field has deepened over the years through steady financial support, regular communication and prayer.
