Communicants Class for Children and Teens begins tomorrow. The class will begin this Thursday, January 16 from 4:30-5:30pm at RRC and run for eight weeks. Parents, please talk with your child/teen and consider whether or not you think they are ready to join the church as a communicant member. If you wish for your child to attend but you have not yet signed up, please contact Pastor Tom Holliday (tom.holliday@alexandriapres.org) or Adam LeRoy (adam.leroy@alexandriapres.org).

Prayer time this Saturday, January 18, at WBRC. The Prayer Committee invites you to join them this Saturday, January 18 from 11am-12pm to pray for the future of APC as we seek the Lord’s vision. Folks are encouraged to join for whatever time they are able to give and raise their voices and prayers to God. This meeting happens the 3rd Saturday of every month.

Newcomers’ Fellowship Dinner is this Saturday from 6-8pm. Please RSVP by Thursday at noon to Office Manager Sue Edwards at sue.edwards@alexandriapres.org. If you’ve been attending APC for one week or several months, Sue Edwards invites you to her home, 2405 Terrett Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301, for food and fellowship. You’ll have a chance to meet church officers and staff, ask questions and learn more about the ministry God is building here. Childcare is provided.

Simulcast at Russell Road. The worship service at Russell Road will now go back to being simulcast downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.

Our elders have called for a Day of Prayer and Fasting on January 22. Please see the attached document for a list of specific prayer items, along with information on fasting.

Opportunity to offer prayers of thanksgiving and supplication on Sunday, January 26. As mentioned in Sunday’s worship service, each person is encouraged to bring his or her written prayers of thanksgiving and supplication to worship on Sunday the 26th. A time will be set aside during the service to bring your written prayer requests forward and place them in a basket, consecrating them before the Lord. The elders will later read the prayers and give thanks with you, as well as join you in lifting your requests.  As you consider your prayer of thanksgiving, we encourage you to thank God for a special prayer that has been answered this past year, which encouraged your faith. As we offer prayers of supplication for the upcoming year, we encourage you to ask God to do something in your life that feels like a stretch—something that requires great faith. As we often say at APC, “We want to ask God to do something so great, that if He is not in it, we are sure to fail.” Attached is a PDF document which you are welcome to use, or you may use your own paper. Feel free to sign your name, or leave it anonymous.

How to be Salt and Light as a Non-Evangelist in 2020. Don’t miss this. Really. Put it on your calendar now.  Randy Newman is an extremely entertaining speaker and he’s coming to APC on Saturday, January 25. It will start with coffee at 9:30am and end at noon. Randy was raised in a Jewish home, became a Christian, and has been on staff with CRU (formerly Campus Crusade) for years. He’s going to talk to us about his book “Questioning Evangelism” and share a different approach for reaching the lost – by being a good listener and by asking good questions. This approach is much more natural for most of us and anybody can do it. Sign up after worship on Sunday, and contact Elder Bryant Streett at 703-942-8075 if you have questions.

Baby Bottle Fundraiser. Help support Sanctity of Life Ministries medical outreach to women and men in crisis pregnancies through their January Baby Bottle Campaign!  Please pick up a bottle this Sunday after worship, take it home and fill it up with change, cash or a check and return it by February 16. Donations made will be given to support their two medical pregnancy centers in Alexandria and Fairfax. Thank you!

Inquirer’s Class is January 31- February 1 at WBRC. If you are interested in membership or in gaining a deeper understanding of APC, you should attend this class. You will receive an introduction to Christianity, the PCA, and the specific vision/mission and philosophy of ministry at APC. Membership is open to all who profess faith in Christ and believe the basic teachings of the Christian faith. Attending the class does not obligate you to join the church. The Friday night session is from 6:30-9pm starting with a dinner, and the Saturday session is from 9am-3pm. Please RSVP to Office Manager Sue Edwards at sue.edwards@alexandriapres.org or sign-up on Sunday if you wish to attend, and indicate if you have childcare needs. Scholarships are available to help with in-home childcare costs for Friday evening, and childcare will be provided at the church on Saturday.

Next Baptism is February 16. If you would like to have your child or children baptized, please contact Sue Edwards, Office Manager, at sue.edwards@alexandriapres.org.

Volunteers Needed:

Help for Explorers needed. A few of our faithful volunteers are taking a break, so we will be needing 2 or 3 people to help us lead this great group of kids. Please contact Leslie Bridge, Director of Children’s Ministry, at leslie.bridge@alexandriapres.org for more info on how you might help.

The APC Nursery is looking for adults and teens interested in becoming paid workers for church events, Sunday evenings and Thursday mornings. Our nursery needs are growing along with our children!
