Men's and Women's Ministries
Men and women play an equally vital role in the life of the APC congregation. There are many opportunities for both men and women to lead and serve in our church and our community. We also offer both men's and women's Bible studies, periodic men's breakfasts, as well as bi-annual men's and women's retreats.

Adult Education
APC offers a wide variety of educational opportunities for adults of all ages and stages of their Christian faith:
Sonship:
Sonship, a 16-week course developed by World Harvest Mission, goes a step beyond the adult Sunday School classes, combining group lecture and small group discussion as it examines our justification and adoption as sons and daughters of God. In a very practical way, this course focuses on what it means to live each day as a child of God. Many of us understand the faith intellectually, but our hearts have not quite kept up with our heads.
Sonship is designed to help you take some of the glorious theological truths of the gospel -- truths that you may know in your head -- and apply them to the nitty gritty reality of daily life. You'll find that as the gospel re-makes you, there is greater joy and desire to share the wonderful news of God's lovingkindness with others.
Sonship is offered at APC once each year, beginning in January and running for 16 weeks (not including breaks for Easter and SuperBowl Sunday). There is no cost to APC members for course materials. Childcare is provided, and both the children's Explorers ministry and the teen's Protas ministry meet at the same time as Sonship. For more information or to register for this course, contact the church office.
Additional information about Sonship can be found at World Harvest Mission.
Sunday School:
Adult Sunday School classes are held on a quarter system, with class options changing four times per year. Class descriptions are listed below. You may visit any class at any time during the quarter.
Fall Quarter (September 11—November 27, 2011)
Jeremiah and Lamentations
Led by retired Chaplain Steve Horning (Room #306)
Of all prophets, Jeremiah most closely resembles the human experience of our Lord Jesus: both “came to their own” with tearful warnings and were rejected; each was “a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief”, each bore alone the emotions of desolation and forsakenness and desperate hardship. Both foresaw the disintegration of visible Israel and the hope of its restoration. Jeremiah’s “Words of Fire, Rivers of Tears” speak to the hearts of American Christians who feel tempted to despair amid unusual cultural upheaval and an escalating “misery index” within most families we know. This course wants to fortify a community of faithful people who will put hope in God’s mercies.
Philippians Plus
Led by Chaplain Ed Yurus (Room #210/212)
The class will begin with Paul’s second missionary journey and the founding of the church at Philippi. Together we will consider where Paul would be writing this letter from and under what conditions. We will then dive into Paul’s letter to the Philippians with this perspective from his time under house arrest in Rome.
Our Calling
Led by Pastor Tom Holliday (Chapel)
Are you looking for purpose in life? For a purpose big enough to absorb every ounce of your attention, deep enough to plumb every mystery of your passions, and lasting enough to inspire you to your last breathe? For centuries, finding purpose in life has been at the heart of the human question. Yet, for many, the path to purpose remains urgent but unclear.” (Os Guinness) Join Pastor Holliday as he dives into The Call: Finding and Fulfilling the Central Purpose of Your Life by Os Guinness. This class will be discussion oriented and hopefully help each of us to discern more clearly God’s calling on our lives.
Desert Songs
Led by Lynn Streett (Room #211)
Please join this women’s Sunday school class as we explore the role of lament in worship. At some time or another most of us find ourselves in the desert. Our hearts cry, “How long, O Lord? Are You there? Why are You not answering?” What do we do with those feelings? Can our cries really be worship? Scripture seems to indicates that they not only can be, but that they actually are an integral part of our walk with the Lord. We will look at examples of great lamenters and their laments, we will be drawn into deeper worship even when our own hearts are breaking.
